Edmonton Capitals News Release
The Edmonton Capitals are gearing up for their most anticipated series of the North American League season so far as they welcome Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions to TELUS Field for a four-game showdown Thursday through Sunday.
Canseco, 46, played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball and is one of the most accomplished sluggers of all time, hitting 464 career home runs and driving in 1,407 runs. He is a two-time World Series champion (Oakland Athletics in 1989 and New York Yankees in 2000), six-time MLB all-star and four-time Silver Slugger award winner, in addition to winning the American League's Rookie of the Year award in 1986 and MVP in 1988.
Following his retirement from baseball, he competed in boxing and mixed martial arts, and was even a contestant on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice earlier this year. But he's now back in baseball as the player-manager of the Scorpions and is set to suit up for the series against the Caps in Edmonton this week. His twin brother Ozzie is also on their roster but won't be playing on the road trip.
Thursday's series opener at 7 p.m. is another Thirsty Thursday presented by Hudsons Canadian Tap House and 100.3 The Bear, featuring $3 beer all game. Friday's game, also at 7 p.m., is presented by Budget Rent-A-Car and will feature the Budget Toque Toss in addition to the usual Capitals T-Shirt Toss.
Saturday's game is another 7 p.m. start and another edition of Saturday Night Movies presented by 96.3 Capital FM and Herbers Autobody & Repair, featuring a Simpsons marathon starting with "Homer At The Bat," which includes Canseco and multiple other former MLB stars.
It's also Taylor Hall Bobblehead Night, presented by Herbers Autobody & Repair, with free bobbleheads of the Edmonton Oilers sniper for the first 500 fans at the game.
As if there wasn't enough excitement surrounding Saturday's festivities, Canseco will also be the Celebrity Saturday guest of honour at Union Hall (6240 - 99 Street) after the ball game.
The series wraps on Sunday at 2 p.m. with another edition of Family Pack Sundays presented by 630 CHED and Dental Choice. Fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four Pepsi products for just $52, and there will also be a post-game autograph session with the entire Capitals team.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
