Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - Friday Night Fireworks weren't the only thing to wow the fans at TELUS field Friday night as the Capitals smoldered the Seals, 12-10.
Designated hitter Norm Hutchins led the Caps' offensive attack with a an RBI single in the third and a bases clearing triple in the sixth for four RBIs. The late-inning, three-bagger broke the game open in a clutch situation.
"I have a different approach. I concentrate more because Brent (Bowers) brought me here to be this guy," explained Hutchins when asked about hitting under pressure, "I like to be in clutch situations."
Paige Dumont picked up the win in an inning of relief work and Hector Almonte earned his first save of the season, pitching a perfect ninth. Almonte was excited to get back on the mound in a tight situation following a tough outing on Thursday night.
"The difference yesterday, I think sometimes people think after 2 errors we lose concentration but we don't," Hector conveyed about the role of closer, "Yesterday the ball didn't do what I wanted it to, but today my pitches did what they are supposed to. "
The tone was set in the Capitals first at-bat with Marcus Nettles tripling to the gap and later scoring on a Darryl Brinkley groundout. In all, the Capitals plated runs in each of the first six innings to take a commanding lead.
Victoria fought back in the middle innings to make the score close, but Grant Ledbetter and Almonte shut the door for the final six outs. Seals second baseman, Wilver Perez led Victoria hitters with two doubles, a triple and four runs batted in.
The game ended, literally with a bang as an amazing display of fireworks filled the sky to the song, Midnight Blue at exactly 12:02am.
