Tucson Toros News Release

In the second game of the Tucson Toro's Inaugural Opening Weekend, the Chico Outlaws outlasted the Toros to take a 5-4 victory, at Hi Corbett Field Friday night. The crowd of 3,116 witnessed the Toros first loss in the Golden Baseball League, but not before the Toros could put up a strong comeback.

The game started with a rough outing for Toros' starting pitcher Blake Eager who struggled through 3 innings giving up 6 hits, 5 runs, and 4 strikeouts respectively. The bulk of the damage was done in the second inning when Chico third baseman Darrick Hale lead off the inning with a solo homerun, which was followed by Chico Leftfielder Blake Gailen's triple. Gailen later scored on a Truan Mehl single.

Michael Martin (1-0) got the victory for the Outlaws, going 6 strong innings and only allowing 3 runs. Martin had a no-hitter going through 5 1/3, until it was broken up by a Curt Miaso single.

The Toros were led by Catcher Luis Apodaca who went 1-for-4 with a single and 2 RBI's, including an RBI in the bottom of the ninth inning, that excited the crowd as the Toros tried to climb back from a 2 run deficit.

Reliever Dan Knox provided strong relief for the Toros. Allowing no runs off of 2 hits including 8 strikeouts in 4 innings of work.

Pitcher Danny Greenwalt will get the nod for the Toros in the third game of the four game set against the Chico Outlaws. First pitch for Souvenir Saturday will be 7:00 p.m at Hi Corbett Field.
