Roanoke Steam News Release
Fayettevile - Cape Fear QB Mike Gluski threw 5 touchdown passes, and Roanoke quarterbacks were intercepted three times, as the Wildcats swept the season series with the Steam, winning 44-26 at the Cumberland Crown Coliseum.
Roanoke, missing key starters such as WR/LB Anthony Hines and OL/DL Jose White due to injury, played the Wildcats to a scoreless tie through the first quarter. But two quick scores by Cape Fear in the second frame put the Steam down by a margin which would grow through the rest of the half.
Steam QB Sean Peterson, making his first start for Roanoke, struggled against the relentless defensive pressure of the Wilcats, throwing two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by WR/DB Norman Mason.
With the win, Cape Fear moved to 6-2 on the season, their first in af2. That win, combined with Richmond's loss to the Albany Conquest, places Cape Fear within a game of the Atlantic Division lead.
The loss, the Steam's third in a row, dropped Roanoke to 4-5 on the campaign. Roanoke will face off this Friday against the Carolina Rhinos at 7:30 in Greenville, SC.
