MACON, Ga. â The Macon Knights upset the Augusta Stallions Friday night 60-57 in a thriller at the Macon Coliseum. The Knights were led by Game MVP Tremaine Neal who caught nine passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
Macon (7-2) and Augusta (7-1) traded touchdowns the entire game and traded the lead ten times, eight in the second half. The most crucial possession of the game came on Augusta's first possession of the game. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Stallions were forced to attempt a 37-yard field goal, which failed. Macon scored on the ensuing possession. The two teams traded touchdowns for the remainder of the game, except for when Augusta was intercepted near the end of the second quarter and when Macon was intercepted at the beginning of the third quarter.
The Knights took their final possession with 37 seconds left in the game. The Knights final touchdown was set up by a 14-yard reception by Neal, and capped by a three yard reception by Martez Wesley with seven seconds remaining in the game. The Stallions had a chance to tie the game but missed a 53-yard field goal attempt, ending the game Macon 60, Augusta 57.
The Knight's offense seemed nearly unstoppable, racking up 368 yards total offense and scoring on every possession but two (one as time expired, ending the first half). Knights QB John Rayborn completed 32 of 41 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns. Rayborn also rushed for three touchdowns.
The Knights were lead on both sides of the ball by Ironman of the Game, Byron Douzart. The FB/LB rushed three times for 12 yards and one touchdown. On defense Douzart recorded eight solo-tackles, one sack and one quarterback hurry.
Renotto Solomon was voted ADT Defensive Player of the Game, rounding out a sweep of the awards for the Knights. Solomon recorded one solo tackle and defended one pass.
Knights WR/LB Martez Wesley turned in 177 all-purpose yards. Wesley caught nine passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns (one of which was the game winner). WR/LB Gabe Amey caught ten passes for 110 yards and one touchdown.
The Stallions recorded 339 yards total offense. QB Glen Gauntt completed 23 of 43 passes for 335 yards and eight touchdowns. The Stallion's receivers were lead by WR/LB Chris Johnson who caught five passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
Stallions OS Undre Williams caught eight passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns, while WR/DB Tim Dumas caught seven passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns.
Both teams are back in action Saturday, June 8th as Macon hosts Columbus and Augusta hosts Jacksonville.
