
Canucks sign Jeff Heerema

Today, the Vancouver Canucks, in conjunction with the Manitoba Moose, announced they have signed forward Jeff Heerema.
Heerema, 24, played in 42 games last season in the American Hockey League with the Worcester IceCats and the Hartford Wolf Pack. In 41 games with the Wolf Pack, the Thunder Bay, ON native scored 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points, as well as collecting 25 penalty minutes. He only played in one game with the IceCats, failing to register a point. In four AHL playoff games with Hartford, Heerema collected nine penalty minutes. He also appeared in 22 games with the NHL's St. Louis Blues in 2003-04, scoring a goal and two assists, to go along with four penalty minutes.
During his four-year pro career, Heerema has played in 154 games in the AHL with Lowell, Worcester, and Hartford, as well as 73 games with the Cincinnati Cyclone of the old International Hockey League. In that time, he has scored 77 goals and 162 points and compiled 184 penalty minutes. Heerema has also played in 32 NHL games with St. Louis and Carolina, scoring four goals and six points along with six penalty minutes.
Heerema was originally Carolina's first choice, 11th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
