Canucks acquire Nycholat from Ottawa

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have acquired defenceman Lawrence Nycholat from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Ryan Shannon.

Nycholat, 29, played in 77 games last season with the Binghamton Senators where he collected 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points to sit fourth in the AHL in scoring amongst defencemen. The Calgary, AB native also played in three games with Ottawa. He has appeared in 31 career NHL games with Ottawa, Washington, and the New York Rangers where he's scored two goals and six assists for eight points and 18 penalty minutes. In 483 games in the AHL with Binghamton, Hershey, Hartford, and Houston, Nycholat has scored 55 goals and 218 assists for 273 points and 722 penalty minutes. He helped the Bears capture the Calder Cup in 2006 with 14 points in 16 post-season games and was named to the AHL All-Star Classic in both 2005 and 2006.

Shannon, 25, played in 13 games with the Moose last season where he scored a goal and seven assists for eight points and 10 penalty minutes. The Darien, CT native also appeared in three games with Vancouver and scored two goals. In 102 career AHL games with Manitoba, Portland, and Cincinnati, Shannon scored 31 goals and 73 assists for 104 points and 68 penalty minutes. He scored four goals and nine assists for 13 points and 10 penalty minutes in 56 NHL games with Vancouver and Anaheim.
