Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today that the club has acquired right-winger Ryan Shannon from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Lawrence Nycholat.
Shannon, a Stanley Cup winner with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, enters his third NHL season and fourth pro. He split the 2007-08 campaign between Vancouver and its American Hockey Affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. The 25-year-old recorded career NHL season highs in goals (5) and points (13) in 27 games with the Canucks. In 13 games with the Moose, the 5-9, 173-pound right-winger had eight points (one goal and seven assists) and 10 penalty minutes. He joined Vancouver on June 23, 2007, following a trade with the Anaheim Ducks for Jason King and future considerations.
Following a four-year career at Boston College, where he collected 150 points (51 goals, 99 assists) in 71 regular-season games, Shannon signed as a free agent with Anaheim on Nov. 28, 2005. The Darien, Conn. native stayed with the Ducks organization for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, helping them win the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2007. In 53 regular-season games with Anaheim, all in 2006-07, he scored twice, had nine assists and 10 penalty minutes. During their Stanley Cup run, Shannon had six penalty minutes through 11 games in the first three series.
Nycholat, 29, was acquired on Feb. 26, 2007, from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Andy Hedlund and Ottawa's sixth-round draft pick in 2007. Over the last two seasons, the Calgary native has played in four games with the Senators. Nycholat appeared in 77 games for Ottawa's AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, in 2007-08.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Wild in 2000, Nycholat has skated in 31 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Washington and Ottawa, recording eight points (two goals, six assists) and 12 penalty minutes.
2008-09 full-season, half-season tickets, coupon books, 10-game and 5-game plans are on sale. For information on ticket packages contact the Binghamton Senators' executive office at (607) 722-SENS.
