Canton Comeback Comes up Short
January 31, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (16-12), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, whittled a 28 point deficit to pull within three, but ran out of chance as they fell to the East-leading Raptors 905 (22-7), 93-86, at the Memorial Civic Center on Tuesday night.
Raptors 905 began the game on an 11-0 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 28 points throughout and by double digits from the 9:22 mark in the first quarter until 1:06 left in the fourth. Canton made a comeback attempt in a strong fourth quarter that included a 26-6 run that cut the game within a basket at 89-86 with 44.5 seconds remaining. An Edy Tavares dunk on the ensuing possession with 19.0 seconds remaining staved off the comeback, however.
Canton's Quinn Cook netted a game-high 32 points on 13-of-22 shooting with four assists in 38 minutes. Eric Moreland filled the stat sheet with 10 points, 14 boards, six steals and five blocks in 35 minutes. John Holland added 13 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals in 43 minutes. The Charge defense tonight forced 25 turnovers that resulted in 33 points.
All five Raptors starters scored in double figures, led by Brady Heslip's 22 points with six assists and two steals in 36 minutes. Edy Tavares posted a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds with seven blocks in 28 minutes. Bruno Caboclo scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 29 minutes on assignment from Toronto.
