'Canes Double up Wheat Kings

Brandon, MB.-- The Brandon Wheat Kings kicked off the month of February Friday night with a 4-2 loss to the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.

After going 4-9-0-1 in January, the Wheat Kings were hoping to get back on track against a struggling 'Canes team but it wasn't to be as Brandon's home ice losing streak reached six games.

Former Regina PatDamien Ketlo was the star of the show, turning aside 41 of 43 Brandon shots as the Wheat Kings home ice record slipped to 11-11-1-2 and 25-25-1-2 overall.

In addition to over 4,200 fans in attendance at the game, Brandon coachCory Clouston was left scratching his head after watching the club's latest loss at Westman Place.

"We were lethargic, at times, and we just weren't sharp enough around the net," Clouston toldBruce Luebke onCKLQ's post game show. We had enough chances, we fired 40-plus shots on net and with the guys we have, we should be able to score on more chances than we did."

CaptainMark Stone andRyan Pulock scored the goals for Brandon, who trailed 2-0 after two periods and 4-1midwaythrough the final period, before turning the tables on Lethbridge anddominating the play. However, it was a case of too little too late.

"They have to do the little things -- stops and starts, they have to go to the net and they have to do it consistently," Clouston told CKLQ. "When we do it consistently, we're a good team. If we do it sporadically, we allow our opponents to get momentum and, tonight, Lethbridge didn't get a lot of momentum and they capitalized on their chances and made good on them."

Corbin Boes made 30 saves as he played his first home game since early December.

Losers of twelve of their last 16 games,Brandon travels to Swift Current Saturday night to meet the Broncos inwhat will be the first of back to back road games before returning hometo face Swift Current on Friday.

Graham Hood, Juraj Bezuch, Adam Henry andMax Molinescored for the winners, who had given up twenty goals in losing three straight games entering Friday night's game.

Brandon remains two points up on Red Deer in the battle for the eighth and final playoff berth in the WHL's Eastern Conference, but fell seven points back of the 7th place Pats as Regina blanked Swift Current 4-0 in other Western League action Friday night.
