
Canadiens Re-sign Gabriel Dumont

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of forward Gabriel Dumont to a two-year, two-way American Hockey League / National Hockey League contract for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
In 2012-2013, Dumont registered three points (one goal, two assists), 13 penalty minutes, a +1 rating, 20 shots on goal and 21 hits while averaging 9:40 time on ice in 10 regular season games with Montreal. In three Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Canadiens, the 22-year-old posted 12 penalty minutes, an even plus / minus rating and three shots. In 55 regular season games with Hamilton, the Ville Degelis, Quebec native scored a team-leading 16 goals, added 15 assists, produced a club co-leading 31 points while posting 83 penalty minutes and a -2 rating. The 5'10'', 189-pound forward represented the Hamilton Bulldogs at the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic in Providence, Rhode Island and was named winner of the Bill Sturrup Trophy (formerly the Fans' Choice Award) as selected by "The Growl" (Hamilton Bulldogs Booster Club).
In four professional seasons, Dumont has recorded three points (one goal, two assists) and 13 penalty minutes in 13 career regular season NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens and 73 points (34 goals, 39 assists) and 217 penalty minutes in 178 career regular season AHL games with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
In four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Dumont produced 169 points (91 goals, 78 assists) and accumulated 299 penalty minutes in 180 regular season games with the Drummondville Voltageurs. The right-handed-shooting forward scored a QMJHL-high 51 goals in his final season of junior in 2009-2010.
Dumont was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round, 139th overall, at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
