Canadians win in Boise
July 17, 2004 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Canadians finally got their way against the Boise Hawks winning 5 â 3. This game prevents Boise from taking the sweep for the series. The contest saw two home runs by Don Sutton of Vancouver and Luis Montanez of Boise. Sunday will see the C's play Salem-Keizer through Friday.
The story of the game has to be Mike McGirr improving to 5 and 0 on the year. Today, McGirr showed why he leads the league in wins. A typical dominating performance from the mound for McGirr as he went 7 innings of 1 run ball. McGirr gave up 6 hits, keeping numerous runners stranded at 1st. McGirrs' ERA is a fantastic .077, a number that should lead him to the All-Star game in August.
It was quiet until the Canadians got the game rolling at the top of the 5th with a 3 run inning. That's when Don Sutton belted a ball over the wall scoring himself and Tom Everidge. The Hawks answered back in the bottom half of the inning with a single run. Each team added a pair of runs in the 8th inning. Beauregard scored off a wild pitch and later Ruiz trotted around to score.
