Boise tops Canadians again
July 17, 2004 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
Boise, Idaho â The Canadians got on the board to take a 1 â 0 lead when Ryan Ruiz scored off an infield run. But the walls came crumbling down from that point as the Canadians fell victim to a fourth consecutive Boise victory, 3 â 14. The Canadians are proving to be a streaky team winning 5 of 6 entering Idaho but failing to protect a lead, something which they have tasted in each game against the Hawks.
Vancouver started Derek Tharpe, a recent draft pick of Oakland in this years MLB draft. Tharpe had proved a difficult pitcher to face thus far in the Northwest league but today just did not have it going into the first inning. Derek allowed 5 runs (4 in the first) in three total innings with 2 K's and 2 walks. Ryan Ford who had great stunts thus far in middle relief came in prematurely and gave up 8 runs. The Boise starter, Luis Brito (4-1), would not fare much better donating 6 runs over 5.1 innings to the C's and suffering his first loss.
Myron Leslie, the teams 3rd baseman had a career day going 3 â 4 with a RBI in the sixth frame. Lately Myron has begun to find his place on the team at 3rd after playing short stop his entire high school and college career.
