Canadian Sheldon Cassimy Rounds out A's Coaching Staff
October 6, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Orangeville A's News Release
To round out the coaching staff for the 2014-15 season, the Brampton A's have added Sheldon Cassimy. ÃÂ Cassimy will take on an assistant coach position, along with the recently promoted Brendan Maloney (formerly the teams Director of Scouting), the NBL Canada's first female assistant coach, Jacki Tipping and a very experienced NBA veteran, Paul Mokeski.
Cassimy has been brought on to specialize in on-court player development, community relations off the court and in game strategy. ÃÂ His qualifications clearly justify the appointment. ÃÂ Cassimy began coaching high school basketball at Crawford Adventist Academy before heading to Lacombe, Alberta, where he played collegiately at Canadian University College and won 4 conference championships. After university, Cassimy became an assistant coach for the University of Toronto Men's Basketball team.
He is Vice President of M.A.D.E. Basketball Training, where he trains some of the most prestigious professional players in the city. ÃÂ Cassimy is also the Convenor of the M.A.D.E. Toronto Pro Am Basketball League.
GM/Head Coach, David Magley is pleased with this final addition to the staff, "When Coach Cook headed to Japan there was a hole left in our program for on court player development. Coach Mokeski fills a large portion of that with his knowledge and experience, but to really make this piece go we needed to add a young, energetic and talented coach. I am very impressed with the way that Sheldon carries himself, which will really contribute to our commitment to make appearances in 120 schools this season. ÃÂ I am confident he will be a strong asset to our program." ÃÂ The A's will kick off their season October 21st, with a "Toonie Tuesday" pre-season game at home, where fans will get in for just $2.ÃÂ The regular season starts as the A's host its Peel rival, the Mississauga Power, Saturday November 1st, 7pm at the Powerade Centre.
