Can-Am League Recap

August 10, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Pittsfield 8, Sussex 5

2B Danny Bomback and CF Quentin Davis pushed Pittsfield to an early 8-0 advantage, and the Colonials fended off comeback efforts by the Skyhawks in an 8-5 win. Bomback smacked a three-run homer in the third, one of his three hits in the game, and Davis followed up with a two-run dinger in the fourth. Pittsfield starter Miguel A. Flores hadn't allowed a run through five, and surrendered just a single unearned run in six innings of work to pick up his sixth win. After Flores departed, Sussex scored four times in the seventh off of Pittsfield reliever Reymond Cruz, thanks in large part to a two-run single by SS Chase Fontaine. But three more Colonial relievers didn't allow a hit or a run over the final 2.2 innings to shut the door on the Skyhawks.

Brockton 10, Worcester 3

Brockton plated eight runs in the first two frames and did enough on the mound to hold off Worcester 10-3 for its fifth straight victory. The Rox offense was carried by the top six in the lineup, who combined to go 15-for-30 with all 10 RBI. Leadoff man CF Chris Valencia collected four hits, scored three times, and smashed his second homer of the season, and 3B Phillip Cuadrado knocked in four on three base hits. All but one Brockton starter registered at least one hit. On the mound, starter Wayne Lundgren surrendered just two runs in six innings to improve to 7-4.

New Jersey 9, Quebec 6

The Jackals exploded for a seven-run seventh inning to overtake Quebec and seal a 9-6 victory. The seven-run frame, which featured a lead-grabbing two-run double by LF Kevin Clark and four unearned runs thanks to a costly error by Quebec SS Ivan Naccarata, erased a four-run deficit. And after the outburst, three Jackals relievers, including closer Romas Hicks, who earned his 16th save, didn't allow a hit in the final two frames. Prior to the New Jersey offense coming to life with two runs in the sixth and seven in the seventh off the Quebec bullpen, Capitales starter Karl Gelinas had pitched five shutout innings, and a balanced Quebec offense had utilized hits from eight of nine starters.
