Pittsfield 4, Quebec 3 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
In the opener of a doubleheader, Pittsfield put up a four spot in the bottom of the fourth and got enough pitching to outlast Quebec 4-3. In the fourth, the Colonials got RBI singles from C Scott Knazek and DH Wes Fink, and a two-run triple from CF Quentin Davis off of Quebec starter Michel Simard, who pitched the full six innings. Pittsfield starter David Qualben was rolling along through the first four innings before allowing three in the fifth, but two relievers shut the door and closed out the Capitales.
Pittsfield 7, Quebec 2 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
The top three hitters in the Colonials lineup drove in all seven runs, and Pittsfield beat Quebec 7-2 to sweep a doubleheader. After falling behind early, the Colonials evened the score on a two-run single by LF Jerod Edmondson in the second, and jumped ahead on a solo home run by C Danny Bomback to lead off the third. Edmondson, Bomback and SS Matt Nandin all knocked in insurance tallies in the fourth, and Nandin drove in another in the sixth. Starter Patrick Moran and reliever Giuseppe Granitto combined to allow just six hits and two runs in the seven inning affair.
Sussex 4, Worcester 3
Sussex jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind the bat of CF Carl Loadenthal and held on to scrape past Worcester 4-3. Loadenthal got the Skyhawks' scoring started with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, added an RBI triple in the third, and finished 3-for-4 on the night. On the mound, starter Mike Vicaro allowed just one earned run in five innings to pick up his third win. Reliever Kevin Gunter then pitched three scoreless innings, but Worcester managed one in the ninth before reliever Matt Salvato closed out the Tornadoes to earn his first save.
New Jersey 4, Brockton 2
New Jersey LF Jeff Grose broke a tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, and the Jackals escaped with a 4-2 win over Brockton. Going into the seventh, New Jersey led a pitchers' duel 2-1, as Jackals' starter Ryan Lobban and Brockton starter Mike Wlodarczyk pitched solid games. But Brockton tied the game on an RBI single by 2B Scott Wearne, who tallied four hits in the game, before New Jersey took the lead for good in the bottom half. And after Lobban left the game, three New Jersey relievers combined to pitch 2.2 scoreless frames, capped by closer Romas Hicks' scoreless ninth to pick up his 11th save.
