Can-Am League Game Recaps
August 21, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Newark 15, New York 4
The Bears scored 12 runs over the first four frames on their way to a 15-4 routing of New York. The offense started early with a four-run first inning, led by a two-run single by CF Danny Santiesteban, and added on with a two-run homer from RF Caleb Stewart in the second. After scoring a pair in the third, Newark added four more in the fourth, keyed by a two-run double by LF Brandon Watson. Stewart later tallied another home run, as the offense provided plenty of support for starter Alex Smith, who picked up his ninth win of the season. Smith pitched six strong innings, allowing only a three-run third inning in which New York C Sandy DeLeon registered a two-run single.
Rockland 8, New Jersey 4
Knotted 2-2 through five innings, Rockland scored twice in the top of the sixth and used a two-run homer from RF Barry Wesson to tack on three more in the seventh to beat New Jersey 8-4. Boulders starter Jonathan Velasquez picked up his seventh win by allowing just two runs over six innings. He managed to settle down after walking the bases loaded and allowing a run in the first and surrendering another tally in the third.
