Worcester 10, New Jersey 1
After being held to just one run and six hits in their last outing against New Jersey, the Worcester Tornadoes got the bats going in a big way tonight, notching ten runs on fifteen hits to defeat New Jersey 10-1. Worcester 3B Mark Minicozzi had four hits in five at-bats, two runs scored and four RBIs, including an RBI single in the top of the first to give Worcester a 1-0 lead. Later in the same inning, DH Nick Salotti picked up an RBI and C Alex Trezza belted a two-run homer to cap off a four-run first inning. Right fielder Tony Patane collected three RBIs for the Tornadoes and went 1-for-4 from the plate. Salotti scored three runs and went 3-for-4 from the plate. Worcester starter Zach Zuercher earned the win, striking out five hitters and allowing zero earned runs in his seven innings pitched. Designated hitter Mike Jones had two hits in four at-bats and batted in the only run for New Jersey in a losing effort.
Newark 2, Brockton 1 (12 Innings)
Newark 3B Todd Gossage belted a solo homerun in the top of the twelfth inning to propel the Bears to a narrow 2-1 win against the Brockton Rox. Gossage, who started the game at SS but switched to 3B in the bottom of the sixth, was the only Newark Bear to get a hit off Brockton reliever Colin Lynch, but the solo dinger was enough to give Newark the win and Lynch the loss. Newark was outhit six to eight in the contest but still managed to prevail. Despite earning a no decision, Newark starting pitcher Jesse Estrada struck out five batters and allowed just one run and six hits in seven innings pitched. In a game where hits were a premium, Newark 2B Paddy Matera went 2-for-4 from the plate and batted in a run. For the Rox, LF Ryan Royster had two hits in four at-bats, scored a run and batted in a run.
New York at Pittsfield (Postponed - Rain)
The game scheduled between New York and Pittsfield was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday, June 12 with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Quebec 5, Rockland 3 (11 Innings - Game played in Trois-Rivieres, QC)
Trailing 3-0 heading into the ninth inning, Quebec rallied to tie the game and then scored two in the top of the eleventh to secure a 5-3 win against the Rockland Boulders. Quebec CF Goefrey Tomlinson had just one hit in six at-bats but collected two RBIs. Capitales C Patrick D'Aoust went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Quebec reliever Guillaume Duguay worked a scoreless tenth and eleventh inning, fanning three batters and allowing just one hit to earn the win. For Rockland, C John Fitzpatrick collected two RBIs in a losing effort.
