
Camp Becanic Begins Sunday

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wolfpackis back and ready for the first installment of Camp Becanic, which will beginSunday afternoon with a team meeting. The camp's first on-ice practice will beheld at the Town Toyota Center the next day, Monday, Aug. 22, at 9:45 a.m.
In all, 32 players are expectedto report to camp - 17 forwards, 13 defensemen and two goaltenders. Nine ofthose 32 players are returning from last year's squad, including forwards Ben Carey, Matt Cope, Shawn Pauly, Blake Saylor, Evan Schmidbauer and TrevorStewart; defensemen Kyle Husonand Tyler Narsing; netminder Greg Lewis.
The Wild tendered 17 players forthe 2011-12 season, 14 of which are expected to take part in camp. Per NAHLrules, the Wild roster must be pared down to 25 players prior to the ShowcaseTournament, which will begin on Sept. 14 in Blaine, Minn. After the tournament,the roster must be cut to 23 players.
"Every coach is optimistic ascamp opens," said John Becanic, whois entering his first full season as head coach of the Wild. "We as anorganization are thrilled with the excitement level of the incoming players,both old and new.
"Our organization's expectationsare always high," Becanic said, "and this season will be no different. We feelthat we have assembled a very talented group that is of the highest character.We know that the road ahead of us is not an easy one, but we feel confidentthat this group will rise to the challenges ahead."
Camp will consist of on-icepractice sessions, off-ice workouts, video teaching, and a special emphasiswill be placed on daily team-building activities. All 12 of the camp's on-icepractices are open to the media and public, including four days of doublesessions.
"We're going to startteam-building on the very first day and try to have the closest team we canpossibly have," Becanic said. "It's really important that everyone feels asense of belonging and equality here so they can be as comfortable aspossible."
Camp will conclude with the Wildparticipating in its first preseason exhibition tournament in franchisehistory. Hosted by the Trail Smoke Eaters of the British Columbia Hockey League(BCHL), the 4-team tournament will take place Sept. 1-3 at Cominco Arena inTrail, British Columbia.
