Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are proud to announce that Majors General Manager and Head Coach, Dave Cameron, will be returning with a gold medal after serving behind the bench as Assistant Coach of Team Canada at the '09 IIHF World Junior Championships, alongside Pat Quinn (Head Coach), Guy Boucher (Assistant Coach) and Willie Desjardins (Assistant Coach).

Canada's National Junior Team defeated Sweden 5-1 last night in the tournament finals at Scotiabank Place in the country's capital. As a result, Canada has now won five consecutive gold medals, and 11 consecutive medals overall, at the IIHF World Junior Championships.

This tournament marks Cameron's third appearance with Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence, and his very first with the country's national junior team.

In 2004, Cameron guided the National Men's Summer Under-18 team to a gold medal at the Junior World Cup. He was also an assistant coach, under head coach Bob Lowes, with the National Men's Summer Under-18 Team at the 2003 Junior World Cup, where Canada finished in fourth place. He recently led Team Ontario to victories at the 2008 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge as Head Coach on November 20 in Guelph, Ontario and on November 24 in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Cameron, a native of Prince Edward Island, is in his sixth season as Head Coach with the Majors. From 2000 to 2004, he led the hockey club to four consecutive trips to the OHL's Eastern Conference finals and helped develop key Majors players who've gone on to play in the professional ranks including the American Hockey League and National Hockey League. He was Head Coach of AHL's Binghamton Senators from 2004 to 2007, before returning to the Majors organization in 2007.

A former NHL centreman himself, Cameron was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft (8th Round), and played for Colorado and New Jersey of the NHL, and Moncton, Maine and St. John's of the AHL.
