Callin' Them Up

January 6, 2003 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

With Mikki Moore signing a 10-day contract today with the Boston Celtics, the total number of NBDL-to-NBA callups for this season already stands at four. Devin Brown was the league's first, playing in seven games with the San Antonio Spurs before returning to the Fayetteville Patriots. Former Huntsville point guard Mike Wilks is currently with the Atlanta Hawks and former Mobile forward Bobby Simmons is currently on the Washington Wizards roster.

Best Player in Minor League Basketball

From Shira Springer of the Boston Globe Staff in the Jan. 6, 2003 Globe story about Mikki Moore signing a 10-day contract with the Celtics - The 27-year-old Moore is ready to compete. He played 145 games for Detroit over four seasons and spent the 2002 preseason with San Antonio. He comes to Boston from the NBDL Roanoke Dazzle, and was widely regarded as the top player in the minor leagues this season. He was averaging 15.0 points per game, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks for the Dazzle.

Making Good Use of His Time

Since coming to the NBDL, Fayetteville's Matt Barnes hasn't been one to waste precious court time. For instance, in two games last weekend, Barnes scored 38 points in 38 minutes. In those two games he converted on 14-of-17 field goal attempts, 8-of-10 from behind the three-point line.

Breakfast with a Reveler

Starting today, and continuing weekly throughout the season, NBDL fans in Mobile will have the opportunity to eat "Breakfast With a Reveler". In order to win the breakfast, fans are urged to register-to-win at each Mobile Revelers home game. "Breakfast With a Reveler" includes breakfast for the winner and two friends, a ride to school or work in the Revelers Hummer2, a photo with the player and quality time with the Revelers player at breakfast.

Boards "Biased" Toward Rodney

Huntsville forward Rodney Bias equaled the NBDL record for rebounds in a game by gathering 20 boards in the Flight's 75-68 victory at Columbus last Saturday. Bias now shares the record with Kareem Poole, who currently plays with Roanoke but set the record as a Columbus Riverdragon, and Makhtar Ndiaye, formerly of the North Charleston Lowgators.

Future's So Bright

The Huntsville Flight, currently deadlocked in a three-way tie for first place in the NBDL with Greenville and Fayetteville, are convinced that their future's so bright they have to wear shades, or at least their fans need to. The first 2,000 fans to enter the Von Braun Center Friday night when the Flight entertains the Roanoke Dazzle will receive free sunglasses courtesy of Arby's. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

Road Warriors

The Fayetteville Patriots play two of three games on the road this week, and if the first 20 games are any indication, coach Jeff Capel is probably looking forward to bus rides to Greenville and Asheville on Tuesday and Saturday, respectively. The Patriots are a healthy 8-2 on the road this season and just 4-6 at the Cumberland Crown Coliseum. The two road games are sandwiched around a home game against the Altitude on Friday.

All We Need is the Fourth

The Greenville Groove couldn't be blamed if they wanted to just cut to the chase and spot opponents 15 points or so before tipping the game off. Twice over the weekend the Groove used 30-plus point fourth quarters to post come-from-behind victories. Greenville was down 15 points to Huntsville last Friday before posting a 31-9 fourth-quarter run for the victory. On Saturday at Fayetteville, Tree Rollins' bunch came from nine down with seven minutes to play for the victory.
