Calgary Roughnecks Fall to Saskatchewan Rush in Overtime

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks fell to the Saskatchewan Rush in overtime on Saturday night at Scotiabank Saddledome, in their final pre-season game before the NLL regular season.

Solid goaltending from both sides saw a 0-0 score after the first quarter, before new Roughnecks acquisition Jeff Cornwall (1g, 1a) opened the scoring against his old team. Goals by Jesse King (3g,1a) and Zach Herreweyers (1g) took the Riggers to a three nothing lead to finish the first half.

Saskatchewan came out strong in the third period with four straight goals. Tyler Pace (1g, 3a) evened the score at 4-4, with power play goals from both sides and a final goal from Jesse King finishing the third quarter at 6-5 to Calgary.

At the end of the fourth with the score at 8-7 to Saskatchewan, Haiden Dickson (1g) tied the game with 0.4 seconds left on the clock to take the game into overtime. Marty Dinsdale scored the game winning goal for Saskatchewan to take the final score to 9-8.

Brett Hickey (1g) notched his first in the Roughhouse, with Dan Taylor (1a) and Zach Currier (2a) both making key assists.

Christian Del Bianco had a strong outing in the Calgary net, stopping 47 of 56 shots faced. Saskatchewan outshout Calgary 56-52.

The Roughnecks open their regular season on Saturday, December 10th on WestJet Field at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Face off is set for 7:30pm, doors open at 6:00pm.
