Reno Silver Sox News Release

(Pleasanton, CA. October 31, 2006) The Golden Baseball League is pleased to announce that the contract of Reno Silver Sox INF C.J. Lang has been purchased today by the Chicago White Sox. He has agreed to terms and will report to spring training in Tucson, Arizona this coming March.

"CJ should do very well in the White Sox system," said Reno Silver Sox Manager Les Lancaster. "He does everything well and has a very intense competitive nature. As the youngest player on our team, I was very impressed with his poise and maturity and am very pleased that the Silver Sox experience has contributed to his professional career."

Lang, 22, a 5 foot 9 inch and 170 pound infielder starred at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, leading his team in hitting at a .362 clip in 2006. Overlooked in the major league baseball amateur draft, the native of the Reno area returned home and landed a spot on Silver Sox roster in mid-June. On a veteran-laden team, he quickly won the starting shortstop position and displayed an outstanding glove, speed on the basebaths, and some surprising power at the plate as well. Anchoring the middle of the Silver Sox defense and hitting throughout the lineup, he was a key component of Reno's championship and also finished third in the GBL Rookie of the Year voting.

"This is the sixth 2006 Reno Silver Sox player to be acquired by a major league organization," said Kevin Outcalt, GBL Commissioner. "We believe that sets a new single season for an independent ballclub, eclipsing the 2005 Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League who had five players purchased. Manager Les Lancaster and his staff do a tremendous job in recruiting and developing their players. They have become a powerful pipeline for player career advancement."
