Buzz vs. Aftershock, round one

November 3, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maywood Buzz News Release

Orange County, CA. The build up to the first game of the season between the ABA Orange County Buzz and the Los Angeles Aftershock echo lines of a great epic novel battle between two powerhouses. The stage is set for this Saturday's tip off between the teams. This may be only the first official game of the season between these two ball clubs, but this is Hollywood and welcome to the show.

Last year, many of the players on both sides played together and were coached by Buzz head coach Burrel Lee. Lee stated "it's going to be strange at first looking on the other side of the court to see great players like Chip Conners, Dion Bailey, Darwin Carter and Ramel "Rock" Lloyd. Rock was our leading scorer on the Buzz last season but once the whistle blows it's time to put our friendship aside and coach the game. This season, we've put together a tough nose defensive team that will surprise many. People often criticize the game in the ABA of having little defense. It's our goal this season to not only be ABA Champions, but also to be the leaders in all defensive categories. Defense wins you games and Championships; its proven no matter what sport you play."

Led by Cedric Ceballos, Keith Close and Tyrone Merriweather, the Buzz will be running with exciting and fantastic players like 6'11" shot blocker and defensive star Sonny Watson, rookie sensations 6'3" Deon "Break 'em Off" Williams and 6'4" Everett Ratleff. Fans were treated in last Saturday's preseason exhibition a preview of what this team can bring. Asst Coach Shawn Pravongvienkham stated, "Keith really showed what he can do defensively to change an opponent's shot. He had nine blocks in that game but that doesn't tell the story on how many shots were altered because of his presence."

The Buzz also added a veteran coach to its coaching staff. Marc Joffe joined the Buzz staff this week. He brings over 30 years coaching and will be key to the Buzz going after the title. "Having Marc on our staff now gives us three coaches who know their X's and O's. Tuesday was a great day in Buzzland as we got our man," stated Lee. The Buzz first home game this season will be against the Inglewood Cobras. For fans attending this Saturday's game at LA, hold on to those ticket stubs. All fans who attend that game will get free admission to the Buzz home opener on November 22nd.
