Boise Burn News Release
BOISE, Idaho ¾ Nearly two months after missing out on the playoffs by just three points, the Boise Burn are gearing up for the 2008 season by bringing back several familiar faces including Head Coach Lee Leslie.
Leslie said, "I am excited about the upcoming 2008 season and I know our fans are also. I'm thrilled to call Boise home and be surrounded by a great group of people."
Leslie will go into the 2008 season with five members from the team's inaugural season that have been assigned to the Burn from the arenafootball2 League Office: defensive standout Travis Tofi, the wide receiver duo of Ahmad Harris and Casey Allen, offensive lineman Derrek Governor, and defensive lineman Mike Peko. Newcomer, wide receiver/linebacker Rob Sirstins has also been assigned.
Tofi, 6'4"and 265-pounds, was a member of the 2006 Rose Bowl Champion USC Trojans. He made his mark as the Burn's top defensive player last year, recording a team high 8 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss in only seven games played.
Harris led the Burn with 1,133 receiving yards and was second on the team with 21 TD's in only 12 games played. Harris was also third in the af2 in average yards per catch at 16.7. Allen, the team's most durable player in 2007, started all 16 games catching a team high 101 catches for 1,116 yards and a team leading 31 TD's.
Governor is a Grambling State product and started six games for the Burn in 2007. Peko, out of West Valley College, missed the final five games of the season with a knee injury. Sirstins, 6'2" and 240-pounds, was a running back/wide receiver at the University of Utah in 2001 and 2002.
Note:
Harris, Allen and Governor are spending their off-season on the field - coaching the Eagle High School Mustangs with Burn Assistant Coach Eric Fillmore.
The af2 will release the 2008 league schedule later this fall.
