Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA- Inferno head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today that equipment manager Mike Burkhead has accepted the same position with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.
"This is a great opportunity for Mike. Just like our players, our staff works hard to make it to the next level," Mann said. "Mike has worked tirelessly for this opportunity, and will be a tremendous asset for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. I am sure that it is a dream come true for Mike to have an opportunity to work as a head equipment manager in the American Hockey League. We are very proud of his accomplishment."
Burkhead leaves the Inferno after one season with the club. Prior to coming to Columbia, he spent three years as equipment manager for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. Burkhead also worked as an assistant equipment manager for the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms during the 2002-03 season.
A graduate of Ohio State University in the class of 1999, Burkhead is a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association and a member of the Society of Professional Equipment Managers.
