Bloomington Extreme News Release
Quarterback Dusty Burk is set to return to action Saturday for the first time this season when the Bloomington Extreme meets Lexington in an Eastern Conference game of the United Indoor Football League at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.
Burk, who has missed the first three games because of a knee injury, led the team in passing last year by completing 131 of 236 passes for 1,477 yards and 28 touchdowns.
The Extreme hopes Burk can help lead the team to its first victory in the young season. Lexington has a 3-1 record with two of its victories coming against Ohio Valley. The Horsemen's other triumph came against Evansville. The lone loss was to RiverCity in overtime.
Two of the Extreme's three losses have been to RiverCity and Ohio Valley. Lexington defeated the Extreme twice last season.
The Horsemen are the top-scoring team in the UIF, averaging 54.8 points on the strength of 31 touchdowns. Running back Rayshawn Askew leads the charge with eight touchdowns to rank third in the league in scoring with 48 points. He also ranks fourth in the UIF in rushing with a 39.8 yards per game average.
Quarterback Kewan Drewberry ranks fourth in passing by averaging 153.2 per game. He has completed 57 of 80 passes for 613 yards and 16 touchdowns. His favorite receiver is Harry Lewis, who ranks second in receiving with an 84.0 per game average and fourth with six receptions per game.
"You aren't going to stop them, so you have to be prepared to outscore them," said Extreme head coach Ted Schmitz. The Horsemen haven't put up numbers like the offense, but have been respectable. Eric Norris leads the team with an average of 5.3 tackles per game from his linebacker position. Defensive back J.T. Haskins averages 4.9 tackles.
The Extreme defensive leaders have been Lamar Baker, Dion Brown and Terrill Mayberry. Baker is tied for second in the league in tackles with 8.2, while Brown averages 5.7. Mayberry tops UIF defenders with seven pass break-ups.
Saturday has been designated as Normal Community High School Night and members of the school's 2006 state Class 6A championship football team will be honored at halftime.
Also, the first 3,000 fans coming through the gates will receive a red plastic Extreme stick, compliments of Thrivent and Radio Bloomington.
Tickets for all Extreme games are on sale at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office. Tickets also may be purchased by calling 309-434-2679; 866-891-9992 or going to the team web site at www.bloomingtonextreme.com or www.uscellularcoliseum.com.
