
Burger Outshines Suns in Class a Debut

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 7, 2017) - White Sox 2017 first round pick Jake Burger recorded three hits in his Class A debut and the Intimidators defeated the Hagerstown Suns 7-5 in a rain-shortened seven-inning game on Friday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Burger finished the night 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored as Kannapolis (6-10 Second Half, 45-39) earned its second straight win.
Starting pitcher Yosmer Solorzano (3-7) earned the win going seven innings and allowing five runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts. All five runs that Solorzano allowed came in the same inning. Hagerstown starter Tyler Watson (5-3) took the loss allowing six earned runs on 10 hits while fanning three in five innings.
Kannapolis grabbed a 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning when Burger and Aaron Schnurbusch recorded back-to-back hits with one out. Up next Zach Remillard doubled scoring Burger. Two batters later Grant Massey brought home Schnurbusch and Remillard on a double to make it a three-run frame.
However, Hagerstown bounced back and took the lead in the top of the third. The Suns produced a five-run frame propelled by a two-run home run from Telmito Agustin to right field and a two-run home run by Jake Noll to left field making it 5-3.
After allowing the big inning, Solorzano settled in a produced four consecutive scoreless innings while facing one more than the minimum 12 batters.
The Intimidators helped their pitcher and tightened the deficit in the bottom of the fourth when Remillard led off with a double and later scored on an error making it a 5-4 Suns lead. Remillard finished 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Kannapolis regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gavin Sheets, also making his club debut, led off with a single. He later scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Remillard tying the score 5-5. Moments later, Burger and Schnurbusch who also singled, scored on a triple to right center by Casey Schroeder giving the I's a 7-5 lead.
The game was called after a 30-minute rain delay in the middle of the seventh inning.
Kannapolis continues a four-game homestand tomorrow with the second game of a four-game series against Hagerstown on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Intimidators send to the mound RHP Kelvis Valerio (1-0, 2.38 ERA) against Suns RHP Carlos Pena (4-4, 5.60 ERA).
