
Bulls Win Battle With Red Wings

DURHAM, NC -The Bulls held on to win a see-saw battle 6-5 over the Rochester Red Wings on Monday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The game saw four lead changes, but the Bulls came out on top.
The offense got going early picking up two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Stephen Vogt and Russ Canzler to take a 2-1 lead. Rochester then took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning when Jeff Bailey hit a two-run single. The Bulls came right back in the bottom of the third inning when Canzler delivered an RBI double to score Stephen Vogt cutting the lead to 4-3. Nevn Ashley then ripped a two-out RBI single to score Dan Johnson and retie the game. Canzler later scored on a passed ball giving the Bulls a 5-4 lead.
The Bulls added another run on an RBI single by Vogt that scored Ray Olmedo to make it 6-4. Mike Ekstrom came into the game for the Bulls in the eighth inning and surrendered a home run to Red Wings pinch-hitter Dustin Martin cutting it to 6-5. After the next two hitters reached the Bulls went to the bullpen again brining in Joe Bateman, who was able to get out of the jam.
Adam Russell worked the ninth inning for Durham, turning a double-play to work around a lead-off hit and earn his first save of the season. Alex Torres (8-6) picked up his team leading eighth win of the season working five innings and allowing six hits and four runs, while striking out six.
Durham will continue their four-game series with the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday August 9 at 7:05 p.m. The Bulls will send Andy Sonnanstine (1-3) to the mound against the Red Wings Scott Diamond (4-11).
