Bulls Top Ice Wolves to Win Seventh Straight

December 21, 2019 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release

Albuquerque, NM - The Amarillo Bulls used a two-goal second period to earn their seventh straight win, as they defeated the New Mexico Ice Wolves 3-2 on Saturday night.

New Mexico wasted little time finding the back of the net, as Zach Frisk poked a loose puck into the Amarillo net just 1:37 into the opening frame. The Bulls would answer and tie the game late in the period when Nick Trela's determination to maintain possession of the puck led to a shot that generated a rebound for Devan Tongue to put into the back of the net.

The second period went the way of the Bulls, as Jordan Venegoni sniped a low shot past Ice Wolves goaltender Henrik Laursen, giving the Bulls the 2-1 lead. Amarillo would grow their lead when Venegoni would slid a puck into the crease that Niclas Puikkonen would dig for and eventually force across the goal line for the 3-1 advantage.

The Ice Wolves would close the gap to a single tally when Logan Martinson wristed a long shot into the back of the net for his first of the season, but the comeback effort would fall short.

With the win, the Bulls are now 23-5-1-2 and hold 49 points and second place in the South Division. The team remains just two points back of the Lone Star Brahmas for the division lead.

The Bulls will return home to close out 2019 on Tuesday, December 31 to take on the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
