Amarillo Bulls News Release

Shreveport,LA(Dec,18)-The Bulls handed the Shreveport Mudbugs their first home loss of the season with a 3-2 shootout victory on Friday night.

In the Bulls' first game since Nov. 28th, Amarillo visited the 8-1-1 Mudbugs in Hirsch Coliseum in their first trip to Shreveport this season. The Bulls would get off to a fast start peppering the Mudbugs goal with 15 shots in the first frame. At the 18:15 mark of the first period, Greg Japchen would score on the power play for his first goal of the season to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.

The Mudbugs did not take long to tie the game when Shreveport forward Billy Feczko beat Cal Sandquist top shelf just 2:44 into the second. The second period would see the Mudbugs control play but Amarillo goalie Sandquist would shut the door and keep the game tied going into the third period.

The Mudbugs would get into penalty trouble immediately at the start of the third period and just over a minute into the third, Jere Vaisanen would score his fourth goal of the season to reclaim the one goal Bulls lead. The rest of the third period saw back and forth action with both Sandquist and Mudbugs goalie Cole Hudson make big save after big save.

The Bulls would hold onto their one goal lead with three minutes remaining but a second Feczko goal late would tie the game and send it to overtime. Both teams would get chances in the overtime frame but a too many men on the ice call against Amarillo in the final minute gave Shreveport a man advantage. The Mudbugs would throw a few more shots on goal, but the Bulls would hang on and send the game to a shootout.

Both goalies were perfect in the first three rounds and to start the fourth round, Bulls forward Ty Black would score to put the pressure on Gio Procopio to extend the game. Sandquist would make the stop on Procopio to secure a 3-2 shootout victory for the Bulls. Sandquist would end up making 24 saves on 26 shots faced and stopped all four shootout attempts.

The Bulls improve to 4-5-0-1 and give the Mudbugs their first home loss of the season. Both teams will face off against each other tomorrow with a 7:11 p.m. puck drop.
