After a visit to Wichita Falls the following weekend, the Bulls first home stand features back-to- back weekends against old and new rivals. On Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12, the Bulls renew one of the best rivalries in the NAHL with the Topeka RoadRunners. It's the first of 12 match-ups that also includes a second Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend match-up in the state of Kansas in four years.
The Corpus Christi IceRays make their first of two trips to the Texas Panhandle to face the Bulls on Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19. The IceRays and the Bulls met in a memorable South Division Semi-Final Series during the NAHL playoffs. These two great rivals will hook up for a total of eight games.
One of the exciting parts of the schedule features the newest member of the South Division, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The Bulls make their first ever visit to Hidalgo, TX at State Farm Arena on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26 both at 7:30 pm. The Killer Bees make their first trip as a junior franchise to Amarillo on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday Nov. 23.
Other schedule highlights has eight games against the Wichita Falls Wildcats and 12 versus the Texas Tornado who the Bulls met in last season's South Division final.
All but four of the Bulls home games at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center are on Friday and Saturday nights (24 in total) with the face off at 7 pm. There are three Sunday games that will start at 6 pm., plus the return of the third annual New Years' Eve game on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 7 pm. In total the longest Bulls homestand is eight games from Friday, Dec. 11 to Saturday, Jan. 11.
There are two tough road stretches for the Bulls that will see them play four games in five nights on two occasions once in early November and the second in mid-March. Amarillo Bulls Vice President and General Manager Rick Matchett says the staff at the Amarillo Civic Center did a great job of working with them on the home dates. "We are excited about our great home schedule beginning in late September this year for our opening weekend," Matchett said. "That will be a 2 game Robertson Cup Celebration that fans won't want to miss? We were able to continue the tradition of our New Year's Eve game which is always a fan favorite and team favorite. It's a great way to send out the old year and start the new with the Amarillo Bulls."
Matchett said Sonic Sunday is back as well as the Bulls first ever Valentine's Day Game. "We have some Sunday games for special promotions like Sonic Sunday which is another crowd pleaser and that will be determined at a later date," he added. "We have something new this year as we'll be playing on Valentine's Day and that will be a Sweet Heart of a deal. All in all it's a great schedule and we can't wait for the season to start.
