February 10, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release

WICHITA FALLS, TX - The Amarillo Bulls used a game in hand to its fullest extent on Saturday night.

Tyler Gernhofer scored what proved to be the game winning goal as the Bulls doubled the Wichita Falls Wildcats 4-2 at Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls, TX. The goal was Gernhofer's seventh of the year and came early in third period to break open a close 2-1 contest at the time.

The victory pushed the Bulls seven ahead of the Texas Tornado, which had the night off, in the race for first place in the South Division. The Bulls were also able to move past the Austin Bruins, which lost in Bismarck, for first place overall in the North American Hockey League standings.

TJ Sarcona, Brady Ferguson and Gage Christianson tallied for Amarillo, while Colin Delia posted the win in goal stopping 20 of 22 shots he faced. It was the Bulls first back-to-back weekend sweep of opponents since December.

After a lengthy delay due to a ceremony, the Bulls were able to skate out and score the first goal. TJ Sarcona finished off a pass from Brady Ferguson on the power play at 11:14. The Bulls outshot the Wildcats 10-4, who didn't have their first shot on goal until the game was nearly 12 minutes old.

The Bulls cranked things up in the second period firing 20 shots, but goaltender Cooper Cook kept his team in the game with some big saves. After the Wildcats tied the game on a questionable goal that appeared to hit the post and not go all the way in, the Bulls were able to retake the lead. TJ Sherman's short side shot was tapped in by Brady Ferguson to make it 2-1. Gage Christianson added an assist on the play.

It was a tight defensive third period, but the Bulls were able to break through scoring two goals on just four shots. Gernhofer's goal came at the 6:29 mark from TJ Sarcona. Five minutes later, Christianson followed that goal up from Tyler Rostenkowski.

The Wildcats closed the gap with a goal 10 seconds later off the rebound but couldn't get any closer. Even though the Bulls were outshot 8-4 in the third period, they were still able to have the advantage at the end of the game 34-22. There were seven total power plays in the game with the Bulls going 1 for 4 and the Wildcats finished 0 for 3.
