Odessa Jackalopes News Release

ODESSA, TX - In their final game before a weeklong Holiday break, the Odessa Jackalopes withered in the third period on Saturday at Ector County Coliseum, dropping their sixth consecutive game to the Amarillo Bulls, this time by a final score of 5-2. With the loss, the Jacks fell to 10-15-4 on the season and with 24 points remain alone in 5th place in the NAHL's South Division standings.

For the second consecutive night, the Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the first period, when Amarillo defenseman Karl Beckman netted the first of four points on the night, a power-play goal assisted by John Rey and Mike Erickson. The Jacks responded early in the second, when Sheldon Taylor sprung Tyler Cayemberg on an even-strength breakaway and the newest member of the Jackalopes did the rest, potting his first goal of the season to tie the game at 2:00 of the frame.

Just 1:36 later, Jackalopes captain Willie Faust put the Jacks up by a goal, poking a Jalen Krogman feed past Amarillo goalie Gregg Gruehl on the power-play, his team-leading 11th goal of the season on a secondary assist by Mikko Virtanen. That Odessa lead didn't last long though, as Amarillo rattled off four unanswered goals the rest of the way, including a pair of Joe Kozlak markers to win the game by a final score of 5-2.

Jackalopes netminder Connor Hellebuyck stopped 37 of the 42 shots he faced and allowed a season-high five goals in his 15th consecutive start and 25th start in 29 Jackalopes games this season. For the sixth straight matchup, Amarillo thoroughly outshot the Jacks, this time by a final tally of 42-19. Next up for Odessa, it's a lengthy Holiday break, followed by a weekend series with the Texas Tornado December 30th and 31st, the last Jackalopes home games until late January.

The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League.
