Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - National Champion, Captain, and now College Commitment.
It has been a pretty amazing junior career for Amarillo Bulls forward Mike Davis who announced his NCAA College Commitment to Neumann University (Division III, ECAC-West). Davis, who is the 12th member of the 2013-14 team to announce their college plans, will play 15 minutes away from home in Philadelphia PA.
"I'm very proud of this accomplishment and looking forward to the next step in my hockey career," said Davis. "My parents are happy with my decision and playing close to home is great. I have some friends that are playing on Neumann so that will make it even better."
For some players the most difficult part of the first year in school is being away from home, but that won't be the case for Davis who will play at the same arena where his dad has coached.
"The school and rink are 20 minutes from my house so I know where everything is," he said. "Some schools are further away from where the students live so it will be nice to be close. I will be able to come home whenever I want to."
Davis finished his three-year, junior-career with the Bulls ranked as the number one all time points leader with 66 goals, 79 assists for 145 points in 162 games. The Newark, Delaware native was second in games played with 162, first in goals at 66, and second in assists with 79.
Davis was selected as the NAHL South Division player of the Week on three different occasions and also won the NAHL Player of the Month for January. He was also named to the South Division roster at the NAHL Top Prospects in February.
"Coming to Amarillo my goal was to play college hockey and I achieved it," he said. "I am grateful to everyone who helped me along the way through the ups and the downs. I can't thank my coaches enough Dennis Williams, Rocky Russo and Harry Mahood."
In Davis' final year with the Bulls he was named Team Captain, a position that he thinks will help him during the next phase of his hockey career at Neumann.
"I know what those players and captains will be going through and I can help them if are having any issues," he said. "It was an awesome experience being team captain of the Bulls this year. I learned so much that has really helped me mentally."
Davis will be a teammate with former Bulls defenseman Dan McDougall who begins his third year at the school. The two will get an opportunity to play against many former Bulls players who are at various NCAA schools.
"Dan and I met when the Bulls held their camp in Aston in June," he said. "It's going to be a new experience for me to play against guys who were my linemates. On the ice, it's all strictly business and doing whatever it takes so help our teams win. But off the ice, we will be able to forget about what happened and talk about our experiences and fun in Amarillo."
Mike Davis is the 12th member of the 2013-14 member of the Amarillo Bulls to announce their NCAA College Commitment joining Matt Sieckhaus (Bentley), Roman Ammirato (Union College), Timmy Moore (Robert Morris), Brady Ferguson (Robert Morris), Joe Grabowski (Princeton), Stuart Pomeroy (Princeton), Paul Berrafato (Holy Cross), Tyler Gernhofer (Vermont), Brendan McGuire (Army), Collin Delia (Merrimack College) and Brett Szajner (Utica College).
