Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - For the first time this season, the Amarillo Bulls have swept a weekend series.

Johan Lundgren scored nearly two minutes into overtime to power the Bulls past the Corpus Christi IceRays 2-1 on Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It was the Bulls third win of the season and it put them within one point of fifth place and two points of fourth.

Joey Molinaro had the other Bulls' goal that came in the opening period. Goaltender Anton Martinsson was the story in goal kicking out 40 of 42 shots he faced. He made several stops in the first period including a couple with his mask.

It was a poised Amarillo Bulls team that came out strong in the opening period getting lots of shots on Dryden McKay. The Bulls power play got rolling and it was Joey Molinaro's shot that went off an IceRays defenseman and in behind the goaltender. Liam Ferguson and George Mika picked up assists on the play. The Bulls and the IceRays each had 10 shots on goal in the opening frame.

The ice was tilted in the second period as the visitors got rolling towards goaltender Martinsson. It took several big stops by the 2nd year netminder to keep the Bulls ahead. The IceRays finally converted and tied the game via a 2-on-1 break on a delayed penalty call. The shots on goal reflected the momentum swing in favor of Corpus Christi 20-3.

The game took a different turn in the third period as the home team got fired up and controlled much of the play. Forward Liam Ferguson missed a chance when his shot sailed past on the short side. The Bulls continued to move forward but goaltender McKay kept the game tied. Amarillo outshot Corpus Christi 11-8 in the period.

When the game goes past regulation it's the IceRays that had the stats in their favor with a pair of wins. Corpus Christi nearly won it in the extra session and was rewarded with a penalty shot. An Amarillo Bulls' player covered the puck in the goal crease creating the scoring chance. Tobias Karcher raced in on the penalty shot, but Anton Martinsson had a better answer and made the save. A short time later, the Bulls capitalized on an IceRays turnover as Jake Houston spotted Joey Molinaro open who shot the puck on the goaltender. Johan Lundgren collected the rebound and fired the puck into the open net to send the crowd in to a frenzy.

The Corpus Christi IceRays outshot the Amarillo Bulls 42-29. There were just two penalty calls in the entire game with the Bulls netting the lone power play marker.
