Amarillo Bulls News Release
TOPEKA, KS - After playing against one another for more than a week, the Amarillo Bulls took on new competition on Friday night.
The Bulls faced the Topeka Road Runners in the first of back-to-back exhibition games and dropped a close 3-2 decision. The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at 7 pm.
"The boys played hard and got better as the game went a long," said Head Coach Dennis Williams. "We need to do the little things better, but we will address those issues and be ready for battle tomorrow night."
The difference in the game was specialty teams as four of the five goals tallied were on the power play. The Bulls trailed 2-1 going into the third period until Mich Rogge notched his second of the game. He tapped home a loose puck that the Topeka goaltender couldn't cover up. Karl Beckman earned the lone assist on the goal.
The Road Runners took the lead late in the third period on the only even strength marker and held on for the win. The Bulls pulled their goaltender in the final 30 seconds of play but failed to get the equalizer.
The opening 20 minutes featured scoring chances by both teams, and a total of four power play opportunities. The Bulls had a 5 on 3 for approximately 40 seconds. Late in the period the Road Runners would net the lone goal via the power play.
In the second period, Topeka used the man advantage again to extend their lead to 2-0, but the Amarillo Bulls would rally back. Mitch Rogge scored on the power play from Zack Smoot.
The Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka Road Runners will play their second game against one another tomorrow (Saturday) night in Kansas at 7 pm. Fans can visit www.amarillobulls.com for a complete game wrap up.
