Chicago Hitmen News Release
Rolling Meadows - There were happy faces in the Hitmen locker room this week as it marked the beginning of the playing season for the NAHL's Chicago Hitmen. The Hitmen wrapped up their 2 week training camp last Friday and began regular team practices this week, as they prepared for 2 exhibition games on September 3rd and 4th in Springfield, Illinois . Owner Mark Hammersmith was "very satisfied with the level of play" of his players so far and head coach Steve Pronger said "we achieved all of our objectives during this training camp and it is time to play.
Overall Pronger and Hammersmith have assembled a veteran team on which every player has junior experience. "Everyone is a "92 or older" Pronger said in reference to the players' birth years. When asked if the older roster was by design Hammersmith said "yes and no, we wanted a veteran team but if a young player earned a spot we would take him ." The Hitmen are carrying 25 players on their preseason roster and twenty-two players will make the final roster. The roster will be cut down after this weekends exhibition games versus the Jr. Blues.
Game times Friday and Saturday in Springfield are 7:00pm.
The Hitmen's home opener is Saturday September 11th versus the Janesville Jets. Game time is 8pm at West Meadows Ice Arena. Tickets are on sale at the arena office or by calling 847 222 9460.
