Bulls Fall To Texas Tornado 8-4

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls saw their four game home unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday night as they dropped an 8-4 decision to the Texas Tornado at the Amarillo Civic Center.

The setback was the Bulls second in a row following a 3-2 defeat on Friday night to the Tornado in Frisco in the first of the home-and-home series. Amarillo's record fell to 7-3-1, while Texas improved its mark to 6-2-3.

The difference in the game was a nine minute stretch of the second period where the Tornado broke open a close 3-2 game with four consecutive goals to take a 7-2 advantage they wouldn't relinquish. Another key factor in the game were specialty teams as the Tornado struck for 4 power play goals in eight opportunities while the Bulls for 0 for 3.

For the first time this season the Bulls got off to a slow start on home ice. The Texas Tornado capitalized with two goals in the final nine minutes of the period. The first was an even strength marker at the 11:26 mark. Then Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams would be ejected from the game for arguing with the official setting up a 5-3 Tornado power play. It didn't take Texas long to score as made it 2-0 with 49 seconds remaining in the period.

It was a wild second period with a total of nine goals being scored After the Tornado jumped out to a 3-0 lead, the Bulls would battle back with two straight goals. First Cody Freeman would score from Zack Smoot and TJ Sarcona at 57 seconds. A few minutes later Matt Johnson jammed home a loose rebound to make it 3-2 from Shawn Serapilia and Terrance Johnson.

The Texas Tornado would then blow the game wide open with four straight goals including two via the power play to make it 7-2. The sixth goal would chase Bulls goaltender Nikifor Szczerba who was lifted for Mac Haight. Amarillo would trim the deficit to 7-3 when Kyle Sucher netted his first goal at 15:33 from Dan Sherer and Chris Cass. The Tornado would score an eighth goal to round out the scoring.

The third period was by far the best for Amarillo as they would cut the margin to 8-4 at the :34 second mark. Matt Johnson notched his second of the game from Terrance Johnson.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Amarillo Bulls as they host the Topeka Road Runners in a pair of games next Friday and Saturday at 7 pm. On Friday it's white out night and the first 250 fans will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of the Bulls. Fans are encouraged to come out and dress in white.
