March 29, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - A quick start by the Corpus Christi IceRays was something the Amarillo Bulls couldn't handle on Saturday night at American Bank Center. The Bulls surrendered three first period goals and dropped a 4-2 decision to the IceRays in the final game of the 2014-15 North American Hockey League season.
The loss concluded the Bulls record at 25-31-4 for 54 points and seventh place in the South Division. For the first time in franchise history, the Bulls won't be participants in the Robertson Cup Playoffs that begin next weekend.
Will Harrison and Luke Novak provided the Bulls offence in the third period after they limited the home side to no goals in the second. Joe Leonidas had two helpers. Jacob Weatherly took the loss in goal and after a rough beginning, the Colorado native settled down and played well.
The Amarillo Bulls were on their heels in the opening period as the Corpus Christi IceRays jumped on the visitors early scoring in the first 30 seconds. Near the midway mark of the stanza, the IceRays tacked on two more goals 38 seconds apart. One was a screen shot off a pass from behind the net, while the second one was a shot just inside the blueline. Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger called a time out immediately after the third goal to settle down his charges and it seemed to help. The Bulls managed just six shots in the period with Luke Novak having the best scoring chance. The IceRays outshot the Bulls 17-6 in the first period.
It was a better second period for the Bulls as they came out stronger, but couldn't beat goaltender Luke Pickar. Elijah Barriga missed a chance on a breakaway and Charlie Combs put a shot off the goaltender's shoulder. The IceRays held a slight shot advantage 11-8.
Will Harrison got the Bulls on the board to open the third period when he was sent in by defenseman Joe Leonidas and Elijah Barriga. Harrison's shot just beat the goaltender on the short side. Just over a minute later the IceRays tallied a fourth goal on a pretty passing play. The Bulls rounded out the scoring in the final minute when Luke Novak picked up his fifth point of the weekend scoring a nice goal from Tristan Rostagno and Joe Leonidas.
There were no power play goals in the game and the IceRays held the final shot advantage 34-24.
