
Bulls Fall to New Mexico Late 4-3

A late goal in the final two minutes of the third period propelled the New Mexico Mustangs to a 4-3 win over the Amarillo Bulls on Thursday night in the Bull Pen at the Amarillo Civic Center. The loss snapped the Bulls two game winning streak and gave the Mustangs their first win on the road this season.
The Bulls battled back from a 3-1 second period deficit and controlled most of the play in the final 20 minutes but couldn't get the winner. The Mustangs scored on a face-off win and a shot that deflected in behind Steve Bolton. The Bulls pulled their goaltender in the final minute of play but failed the get the equalizer.
The Amarillo Bulls dominated the opening period in the shot department with 14 on goal but no sustained pressure. The Mustangs were able to capitalize on their lone scoring chance early in the first period and took a 1-0 lead. There were no penalties as the teams played a torrid skating pace up and down the ice.
The second period featured plenty of offense and a total of five goals. New Mexico made it 2-0 before the Bulls cut the deficit when Matt Johnson scored from Dan McDougall and Derek Hills at 7:44. Just under two minutes later the Mustangs extended their lead to 3-1, but after that the Bulls power play took over with two goals in the final three minutes. Joe Kozlak netted his fifth power play goal in his last six games from Brandon Lubin at 17:50.Matt Johnson tied the game from Zack Smoot and Sean Keane at 18:39.
Amarillo outshot New Mexico 47-23 including 17 alone in the third period. There were a total of four power plays with the Bulls going 2 for 3.
The Amarillo Bulls begin a two game road trip in Corpus Christi tomorrow night against the IceRays at 7 pm at American Bank Center.
