Amarillo Bulls News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Amarillo Bulls have been guilty at times this season of not getting enough shots on goal. That was certainly the case on Friday night at NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills Texas as the Bulls produced just nine shots in a 2-0 loss to the Lone Star Brahmas.

The loss extended the Bulls winless streak to six games, and stretched a consecutive losing streak against Lone Star to eight games. Goaltender Anton Martinsson stopped 34 of 26 shots he faced including 27 alone in the first 40 minutes.

Tonight's game began a stretch of five games in nine days by the Bulls that includes a trip to Topeka for the first time this season before returning home in a week.

The Amarillo Bulls kept the Lone Star Brahmas at bay for the first 12 minutes of the game, limiting their scoring chances. The Brahmas took a 1-0 lead ending a scoring drought of over 70 minutes of play (dating back to Wednesday's loss). Alex Berardinelli converted a two-on-one with a high shot that beat goaltender Anton Martinsson up high.

Six minutes later, the Brahmas made it 2-0 when a shot from the point deflected off of Nick Santoro and snuck through Anton Martinsson on the short side. The Bulls lone chances came from Nick Santoro as his deflection from the point just missed. The Brahmas outshot the Bulls 14-4 in the first period.

It was a physical second period that the Bulls were able to use to their advantage and slow down the Brahmas. Trent Dillinger and Joey Molinaro with the Bulls best chances offensively. Anton Martinsson faced just 13 shots on goal with his best save coming off a chance by forward Martin Mellberg. The Brahmas outshot the Bulls 13-3 in the stanza.

The Bulls were still within a shot of getting back into the game in the third period. Jacob Nitsche had a great opportunity at the side of the net but was denied by goaltender Conor O'Brien. Defenseman Keenan Sabatini fired a shot that was deflected just wide of the net. There were a combined 11 shot in the third period with the Brahmas getting nine of them.

The final shots on goal favored Lone Star 36-9. There were six total power plays in the game with each team getting three.
