Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls came out in a feisty mood against the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Bulls outworked their opponents for most of the night but came out on the short end of a 3-2 decision. It was just Amarillo's second loss on home ice this season.
The same two teams will close out their weekend series on Saturday at 7 pm. It's Halloween Night with lots going on for fans and several ticket specials.
The game was tied entering the third period when the Brahmas potted a power play goal on a backhand shot that just got under the cross bar behind goaltender Anton Martinsson. The Bulls pressed the issue in the final three minutes, including a power play and a sixth attacker, but failed to nudge one past goaltender Conor O'Brien.
Keenan Sabatini got Amarillo off to a great start with a goal at the 13:13 mark from George Mika and Johan Lundgren. The Brahmas failed to clear the puck out of their own end and Lundgren was able to push it over to Sabatini who deposited the puck in the top shelf.
Nearly two minutes later, the Brahmas were able to rally back and tie the game by out-numbering the Bulls inside their own zone. A short time later, Lone Star grabbed the lead when a shot from the point was tipped through Martinsson.
Joey Molinaro gave the Bulls a great opportunity to tie the game on the power play when his shot was denied by the right pad of O'Brien. The Brahmas had all of the first period shots with a 19-6 advantage.
The Bulls gave the Brahmas a taste of their own medicine by scoring on a long pass and breakaway. Michael Forman was sent in alone by Charlie Singerhouse. Forman barely got it over the goal line at 1:38 mark of the period. That goal excited the Bulls as they were able to control most of the play, getting sustained pressure inside the opposition's end. Amarillo was outshot by the Brahmas by a slim 12-7 margin.
Each team had power plays in the third period but it was Lone Star that was able to take advantage and pull ahead. A Brahmas forward slipped through and backhanded a shot under goaltender Martinsson.
It was all Bulls after that with some quality hard work in the visitor's end. After failing to score on a power play with just over three minutes left, the Bulls pulled their goaltender for the extra attack but couldn't break through to tie the game.
The Lone Star Brahmas outshot the Amarillo Bulls 41-21 including 10-8 in the third period. Each team had three power plays with the Brahmas getting the lone marker.
