Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls fired two second period goals and held off the Lone Star Brahmas 3-2 on Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
Jake Willets and Brendan West scored early in the second period to snap a 1-1 tie and then the Bulls defensive play took over in the third period prevented the Brahmas from mounting any comeback.
The victory extended the Bulls unbeaten string to 13 games (10-0-2-1) and keep the first place lead to 9 points in the South Division.
One year ago the Bulls failed to score a goal on the annual Toys for Tots Teddy Bear Toss, but this year it didn't take long. Early in the first period Gagik Malakyan scored from the blueline on a great shot and the fans launched the Teddy Bears and Stuffed Animals to the ice. Gabriel Seger and Logan Jenuwine earned assists on the play. Just over five minutes later, the Brahmas pulled even as Frank Trazzera scored off a rebound at the side of the net. The Bulls outshot the Brahmas 15-12 in the first period.
It was a dominating second period for the Bulls as they came out strong with 16 shots on goal. Jake Willets finished off some hard work in the first minute when he fired a shot past the stick of Seth Eisle. Ryan Lautenbach and Louis Helsen earned assists on the play.
The Bulls kept pressing and were rewarded with their third goal as newcomer Matt Allen spotted Brenden West open in front of the net with a great pass and it was 3-1. Nick Anderson also had a helper on the play.
Penalties hurt the Bulls early the third and it allowed the Brahmas to push forward and pull to within one. Scott Person connected on a one timer via the power play. That was first goal the Bulls allowed shorthanded in nearly a month. However, the rest of the third period saw the Bulls limit Lone Star's opportunities including a push in the final minute to get the equalizer.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Lone Star Brahmas 41-25.
