Amarillo Bulls News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Amarillo Bulls had not lost three straight times to an opponent in their short franchise history, and that streak continued on Wednesday morning.

Playing in the franchise's first ever School Day game, the Bulls fired four third period goals to snap a 1-1 tie and went on to beat the Corpus Christi IceRays 5-1 at American Bank Center.

The victory was the Bulls 37th of the season and it pushed them 10 points up on the Topeka RoadRunners for first place in the South Division. The IceRays fell back to five hundred and remain just seven ahead of the Wichita Falls Wildcats for the fourth and final playoff spot.

"It was a good morning for us," said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. "Pat Dunn of the IceRays did a great job creating a great atmosphere and getting these students to the game. We went with a short bench today with nine forwards and six defenseman because I didn't like the way some of the guys played. Our guys battled through it and were mentally and physically tougher in the third period.

It was a better first period for the Amarillo Bulls as they fired 17 shots on net but couldn't get one past goaltender Ben Myers. The Bulls had a 5-on-3 power play and also an opportunity on a penalty shot by Blake Roubos that was denied by the IceRays' goaltender.

In the second period, the Bulls raced out to a 1-0 advantage when Clint Carlisle was sent in on a breakaway and good shot beat Myers at the 3:47 mark. Less than four minutes later, the IceRays pulled even on a power play goal after they won the draw off the face-off. Corpus Christi outshot the Amarillo Bulls 11-10 in the middle period.

It was all Bulls in the third period with four goals on just 11 shots on goal. Blake Roubos gave Amarillo a 2-1 lead when he scored at the one minute mark from TJ Sarcona and Matt Sieckhaus. Just over two minutes later, the Bulls would take a 3-1 advantage when Dan McNamara scored in the high slot area from Clint Carlisle.

The Bulls were not done yet as they continued to add to the offense. Omar Mullan finished off a play atbthe side of the net from Connor Frey and Carter Penzien. Brady Ferguson rounded out the scoring when he tallied into an empty net with 42 seconds remaining. Goaltender Paul Berrafato kept the Bulls in front with some timely saves.

The second half of the four game road trip for the Amarillo Bulls continues on Friday and then Saturday night when they visit the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum at 7 pm. Fans can tune into the game live on CBS Sports Radio 1440 and www.amarillobulls.com beginning with The Warm Up Show at 6:45 pm. Denis J. Puska has the call to follow.
