Bulls D-Man Karl Beckman Commits to Holy Cross

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced today (Wednesday) that defenseman Karl Beckman has committed to Holy Cross University (Atlantic Hockey) for the 2012-2013 season.

"It's a great achievement for Karl and the Amarillo Bulls hockey team," said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. "He has been an absolute terrific player who keeps improving every time out. Karl strives to get better every single day. His hard work has paid off this season, and Holy Cross is not only getting a great hockey player, but an even better person."

In 41 games with the Bulls, Beckman has notched two goals and 12 assists for 14 points. The Okemos, Michigan native leads all North American Hockey League defensemen with a plus-minus rating of plus 25. He has four power play assists and 70 shots on goal.

Beckman, who returned from a visit earlier this week from Holy Cross, said the tour helped him with the final decision.

"I loved the campus and the school was just fantastic," Beckman said. "I am really excited at this opportunity that they have presented me. I can't wait to get started out there."

Beckman added that he would like to thank the Amarillo Bulls coaching staff for pushing him all season and giving him this opportunity.

"I also want to thank my Midget Coach Dean Dixon who pushed me to junior hockey. He has really helped me along the way. I want to also thank my family for their support, and being there to further my hockey career."

Holy Cross University is Division I school, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, a New England city with a population of 175,000 that is just west of Boston.

The Amarillo Bulls return to action next week with three games in as many nights. It heats up next Thursday, Feb. 24 when the Bulls visit the New Mexico Mustangs for the final time during the regular season at 7:30 pm Mountain, 8:30 pm Central. The Bulls return to home ice on Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 against the Corpus Christi IceRays at 7 pm. On Saturday, the Bulls will be wearing Make-A-Wish jerseys and those jerseys will be auctioned off immediately after the game. All fans are invited out to thr auction which takes place in The Corral.
