Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - For just the second time this season the Amarillo Bulls have lost back-to-back games.

The Topeka Road Runners scored two in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and held on for a 4-2 triumph over the Bulls on Saturday night in the Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It's the first time this season that the Bulls have lost two straight games on home ice, a place where they had posted 12 wins.

Topeka continues to lead the South Division standings by just a point over the Texas Tornado which rallied in overtime to beat Fresno. The Bulls are in third place just four back of second place and five back of first.

It was a well played game by both teams and the goaltenders Eric Rohrkemper and Nikifor Szczerba did their best to give their teams an opportunity to win the game by making some big saves.

The RoadRunners took the lead at the 8:29 mark of the third period when Justin Hussar scored his second of the game on a breakdown inside the Bulls zone. Justin Davis added an empty net goal to round out the scoring.

There was no scoring in the opening 20 minutes of hockey and just 15 shots on goal between the two teams.

The RoadRunners raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period with two-goals, six minutes apart, including one on the power play. The Bulls weathered the storm and battled back with a couple of goals to get the game even. First, Dan Sherer scored from Karl Beckman at 9:45. Beckman spotted Sherer open who made no mistake in putting the puck into the net. Matt Johnson pulled the Bulls even and gave his side some much needed momentum from Mitch Rogge and Brooks Behling at 18:24. Johnson goal came on the power play and finished off the play with a great move in front of the net.

There were several skirmishes after the whistle during the game and a total of four fights. Each team scored a power play goal on a total of nine attempts. The RoadRunners outshot the Bulls 37-25 including 28-19 over the final 40 minutes.

The Amarillo Bulls return to action next weekend when they continue a five-game home stand. On Saturday, the Bulls host the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm. It's Show Me The Money Night presented by The People's Federal Credit Union. One lucky fan could win $250.

It's Sonic Sunday the next day when the Bulls host the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at 6 pm. Fans can come out and watch this game for free. Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis and can be picked up at the Civic Center Box Office or at the Bulls Office located at 901 South Buchanan.
