Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - For the second straight game, a strong middle stanza propelled the Amarillo Bulls to another home ice victory.

Four second period goals, including two by Brendan West pushed the hometown Bulls past the Corpus Christi IceRays 8-3 at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center in front of a crowd of better than 4,000 people. It was the second straight game that the Bulls were able to score eight times. Amarillo has outscored Corpus Christi 48-16 in 11 of the 12 games the teams have met this season, with more more to come tomorrow at 4 pm.

West finished the game with a hattrick, while Jason Brancheau scored twice and Jake Willets had the other. Justin Evenson notched the win in goal. Brancheau had three assists and a five point game, while Logan Jenuwine, Brendan Datema and Nick Trela each had two helpers.

Prior to the game, the Bulls honored their players who will not be returning next season as part of their senior ceremony that has become a tradition for the past nine seasons.

It was almost a carbon copy of the first period as the IceRays jumped out to a 1-0 lead before the Bulls pulled even as Jake Willets scored on a terrific shot in front of the net from Ryan Lautenbach and Jason Brancheau. Corpus Christi outshot the Bulls 12-10 in the first period.

The visitors pulled ahead 2-1 early in the second period only to see the Bulls go on attack mode and score four consecutive goals to push in front by three. Brendan West scored twice, while Gabriel Seger and Ryan Lautenbach had the others. Assists on the goals were provided by Logan Jenuwine with two, while Brendan Datema, Nick Trela, David Ojamae, Jon Pesek, Jason Brancheau and Trey Bagwell. The Bulls outshot Corpus Christi 15-12 in the stanza.

The IceRays tried to make a game out of it early in the third period with a goal to cut the deficit to 5-3 but after that the Bulls took back control. Jason Brancheau scored on a bad pass from goaltender Brian George and then scored a second marker into an empty net. Brendan West completed his hattrick with another empty net goal. Nick Trela, Jason Brancheau and Brenden Datema had assists on the goals.

The Amarillo Bulls and the Corpus Christi IceRays each had 40 shots on goal. There were not power play goals in a combined nine attempts.

Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock is the final regular season home game for the Amarillo Bulls as the host the Corpus Christi IceRays. Fans can get $8 Silver Tickets and $10 Red Level tickets through the Bulls Office at 301 South Polk from 12 to 2 pm or at the Civic Center Box Office.
