Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The combination of Cody Gylling and Anton Martinsson helped the Amarillo Bulls end their five game losing streak on Saturday night.
Gylling scored both goals and Martinsson made 34 saves as the Bulls edged the Odessa Jackalopes 2-1 in overtime at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It was the Bulls 6th win of the season and fourth on home ice. It was Military Appreciation Night as the Bulls took time to honor active military and veterans with special ceremonies before the game and intermissions.
The Odessa Jackalopes scored the game's first goal when a shot from the point eluded goaltender Anton Martinsson on the short side. The game was delayed several minutes due to ice problems. At one point the game was stopped with just over nine minutes played. The referee instructed the teams to go to their dressing rooms and take the first intermission so repairs could take place.
When the game resumed the Bulls came out strong and tied the game when Gylling scored on a great move around the defenseman and he was able to stick the puck between the legs of the goaltending. Luke Novak and Kasper Emanuelsson earned assists on the play at the 9:01 mark. Amarillo outshot Odessa 16-14.
The second period slowed down with plenty of stops and starts. There was no scoring and Odessa had the shot advantage 9-7. The Jacks had the better of the scoring chances that were stopped by Martinsson.
The third period was much more wide-open play with the teams combining for 26 shots on goal. Joey DiBenedetto missed a big chance when he failed to convert a pass from Cody Gylling. In the dying seconds of regulation, DiBenedetto was streaking towards the front of the net was he was taken down to send his team on the power play to start the extra session.
Cody Gylling gave the Bulls the win when his one-timer snuck through the legs of goaltender Robin Johansson at the 1:24 mark. Jasper Synnellius and Kasper Emanuelsson picked up assists on the play.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 37-34 including 14-12 over the final 22 minutes. Each team had three power plays with the Bulls notching the lone goal.
A quick two game home stand closes out for the Amarillo Bulls tomorrow (Sunday) night when they host the Odessa Jackalopes at 6 pm. It's Sonic Sunday and free tickets will be handed out at the Civic Center Box Office starting at 4 pm until they are gone.
