Keystone Ice Miners News Release

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - The Soo Eagles avenged a pair of losses to the Ice Miners back in September on their home ice, with two wins in Connellsville this weekend. After a 2-1 victory on Saturday, the Eagles rallied twice in regulation and once in a shootout for a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon.

Saturday's contest was scoreless through one period of play, but it took only 44 seconds for Chase Matson to net the opening marker in the second. Raymond Brice then capitalized on a Lucas Little turnover and made the score 2-0 at the 8:19 mark. The Ice Miners would strike early in the third on a nice individual effort from Matt Jones, but could not find the equalizer despite a last minute powerplay chance.

On Sunday, the Ice Miners opened the scoring for the first time in over a month when Austin Romzek scored his fifth goal of the season 2:52 into the game. After Nick Belger answered for Soo, Tommy Horn scored his first goal in a Keystone uniform late in the frame to put the Ice Miners back on top. The game remained 2-1 through two periods before a fluky goal by defenseman Pat Gazzillo evened the score with just under five minutes left.

In the shootout, Romzek scored in the second round before Belger tied it in round three. In the first sudden death round, Soo's Denver Pierce beat Nick Kossoff and Jacob Coleman was unable to answer. The Ice Miners fell to 1-3 in shoouts and 7-10-2 on the season, still last place in the North Division.

Keystone hits the road for three games in the midwest starting with an 8:05 PM ET start in Springfield on Thursday, November 20th. The game will be broadcast on FASTHockey.com, with the AWAY feed carrying the Ice Miners broadcast network.
